Beijing is located in the northern part of the North China Plain at 39°56' north latitude and 116°20' east longitude.
The major rivers flowing through the city include the Yongding River, the North Canal and the Juma River. Beijing covers an area of 16,807.8 sq. km and has a population of 11 million.
Beijing has a typical continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Spring is dry and windy, while summer is hot and humid. Beijing's winters are cold and long. The average daily temperature is 10-12 degrees Celsius around the year, and the annual rainfall is about 600 mm.

The average precipitation in a year is 644 mm. The frost-free period is 180-days.
